The fit out of the Sensory Room at Enable Ireland’s Adult Services Centre in Mungret, Limerick is now well under way. Following the success of the Sellors Summit Challenge in June, the Sellors Team handed over a fundraising cheque for €15,000 to Enable Ireland for the installation of a multi-sensory room for service users with physical and intellectual disabilities. Following a lengthy procurement process, a specialist firm, Healthcare 21, were engaged to design and fit out the multi-sensory room for the benefit of the Centre’s 50 adult service users.  The Sensory Room will be called the “Sellors Sensory Room”.

The sensory room was fitted this week which consists of a 360-degree electronic hoist to ensure access for all service users, a sensory waterbed, soft play area, tactile surfaces, ambient and fibre optic lighting, bubble tube and projector. Further works are to be undertaken shortly to install a sensory music system and mural artwork. The sensory room will be an all-inclusive dedicated space for service users with complex dual disability needs to provide relaxation and enjoyment; stimulate sensory input and facilitate communication and mobility for the service users.
